Whitley Hardy never imagined she’d have to choose whether to pay her homeowner’s insurance or feed her children. But rising homeowner’s insurance premiums are forcing her family to sell their dream home and become renters.
Hardy and her husband built that dream home two years ago, near Birmingham and expected to live their long-term. Things changed earlier this year when she got a letter in the mail from her mortgage company.
“It said, starting next month, your mortgage is going to go up from X amount to Y amount, and we’re not talking $50, $100. We’re talking a significant difference – somewhere between $600 and $700 higher a month.”
Nothing about her home or property had changed, so she quickly called her insurance …
