CINCINNATI — As a new school year speeds up at the University of Cincinnati, there’s new efforts to stop cars from doing the same.
UC, its consultant and the city of Cincinnati applied for and was awarded $510,223 between two grants from the Ohio Department of Transportation. The Abbreviated Safety Grant “prioritizes less expensive, less complex safety improvements that can be implemented quickly,” City Manager Sheryl Long wrote in an April 2024 memo to the mayor and members of City Council.
Over the summer, the city’s Department of Transportation and Engineering installed eight “quick curb extensions” at various locations along Clifton Avenue, Jefferson Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive.
“I’m really excited to see these here,” said Bryce Mortera, a pharmacy student and lead for strategic partnerships at Civic Cincinnati, a local advocacy group.
