TIFFIN, Ohio — A home furnishings company is laying off about 130 employees from a Tiffin facility as it transitions from a manufacturing to a distribution and warehouse operation, according to a letter sent to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services last week.
The layoffs of hourly Ameriwood Home employees at the facility on Second Avenue in Tiffin happened due to “a significant downturn in our business” as parent company Dorel had to “make some hard financial decisions to survive this economy,” the company’s letter states.
The layoffs went into effect on July 8 and leave the facility, which will transition into the Ohio Distribution Center by Sept. 5, with 40 hourly and salary employees.
