Ticonderoga community remains strong a year after July 2023 flooding [Video]

The July 2023 flooding took a toll on northern New York communities, particularly in the Town of Ticonderoga.Shawn Johndrow, a Ticonderoga resident impacted by the flood, shared his experience. “I’m one of the lucky ones. I live up on the mountain, but my driveway was definitely impacted,” Johndrow said.Johndrow and his family have lived in their 20-acre home on Forest Way in Ticonderoga for the last six years. Their home, located off the beaten path, has a half-mile-long dirt driveway. While the house was spared by the storm, the driveway faced severe damage.“The storm washed out my driveway over about a half mile,” Johndrow recounted. “A dirt driveway that was washed out, which made it very hard for me to get to work, get out of my driveway.”The July 10 storm left damaged sewage and layers of bedrock scattered across Johndrow’s driveway, remnants that are still present.
