Thousands receive meals, health care, mental health services in Rome after tornado [Video]

Rome, N.Y. — Hundreds of people lined up in Rome Sunday seeking meals and essential health and human services after the destruction of their homes and businesses by a tornado Tuesday.

Two mobile operations were set up this weekend to provide residents with services for public assistance, health and mental health referrals as well as services for senior citizens. The units will be out in the city all week.

The county is also assisting residents with SNAP and public service benefits, according to Oneida County Deputy Health Director Katie Mungari.

Staff in the mobile units also will be able to answer general inquiries pertaining to tornado recovery efforts as well.

County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. and City of Rome Mayor Jeffrey Lanigan announced the mobile operations at the corner of North James Street and Liberty Street parking lot.
