The Starting Line: Local teens compete for spot in 2024 Paralympics [Video]

FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – The 2024 Paralympic Track and Field Trials begin Thursday in Florida. Valley News Team’s Tatum Miller introduces us to a couple athletes who will be representing the Peace Garden State.

Hours of preparation, almost a decade of training, and a lifetime of perseverance. This track has seen it all. The years of blood, sweat and tears leading up to today.

“I’m excited, maybe a little nervous, but excited mostly,” Samuel Winter said.

“I’m also a little nervous because it’s my first time,” says Isabelle Hogness.

There’s no question: These two teenagers are stellar athletes. Samuel Winter laced up his track shoes for the first time in 2018. Just two years later, he was a national competitor.

“In 2022, Sam was selected to compete with Move United in Portugal, and then in 2023 he went to Thailand,” his mom Becca Winter explains.
