TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – Taxpayers are getting ready for the first day of tax season. For many Arizonans, they are able to file their taxes for free using several programs in-person and online.
One program that is kicking off throughout the country is Direct File. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) launched the pilot program of Direct File last year.
The program came after the Inflation Reduction Act, where a May 2023 study with numerous taxpayers showed interest in a free program directly with the IRS.
Arizona is one of 25 states where the software can be used, but the IRS took it one step further. Once you complete your federal tax return through Direct File, your data securely transfers over to the state’s filing system to avoid having to repeat filing the same information.
