FIGHT BACK AGAINST MENTAL ILLNESS. BUT FIRST. VANDALISM IS ONE OF MANY PROBLEMS BUSINESS OWNERS FACE IN ALBUQUERQUE. REPORTER ALYSSA MUNOZ IS LIVE IN NOB HILL AFTER FINDING OUT THE CITY IS HELPING TO PAY FOR SOME OF THE DAMAGE. YEAH. SHELLEY. DOUG. WELL, BUSINESSES NOT ONLY HERE IN THIS AREA, BUT JUST AROUND ALBUQUERQUE WERE FRUSTRATED WITH THE VANDALISM ISSUES, BUT NOW THE CITY IS OFFERING UP TO $5,000 TO GIVE THEM A HAND. ITS AN ISSUE SEEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN. A STORY BUSINESS OWNERS OFTEN HAVE TO RETELL. THEY BROKE INTO OUR ATTIC FROM MY ATTIC DOWN AND THEY CAME AND JACKED A LOT OF MY PIPES AND STUFF. ORLANDO MEDINA IS THE MANAGER OF A SMOKE SHOP IN NOB HILL, AND HE SAYS HES ADDED MORE SECURITY TO PROTECT HIS BUSINESS. WE ARE SECURED FULLY IN AND OUT. REASON WHY THEYRE THERE? BECAUSE WE DO. WE DO GET BURGLARIES A LOT, OR WE TRY TO GET A LOT OF BREAK INS AND SO WE TRY TO PROTECT OURSELVES. SO MUCH AS POSSIBLE. A FEW DOORS DOWN THE GENERAL MANAGER OF MATTUCCI SAYS THEYVE HAD SOME WINDOWS BROKEN AND THATS EXACTLY WHAT THE CITYS NEW WINDOW TO OPPORTUNITY GRANT IS FOR. THE GRANT WILL REIMBURSE UP TO 80% OF THE TOTAL COST OF A WINDOW REPLACEMENT OR REPAIR. I MEAN, IM SUPER EXCITED. I THINK THAT SOMETIMES WHEN YOU HAVE A BROKEN WINDOW AND YOU WANT IT REPLACED SAME DAY, IT CAN DEFINITELY BE A HEFTY BILL. BUT FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO GIVE US A GRANT TO KIND OF ALLEVIATE SOME OF THOSE COSTS IS AMAZING. AND IT WILL DEFINITELY MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. FOR DIFFERENCE FOR CERTAIN SMALL BUSINESSES. THE CITY SAYS THERE IS $200,000 AVAILABLE FOR THE PROGRAM. THE DAMAGE MUST HAVE HAPPENED ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER 1ST, AND BUSINESSES MUST SUBMIT A POLICE REPORT AND DOCUMENTATION. BUSINESSES WITH DAMAGE IN JULY AND AUGUST CAN ALSO APPLY, BUT THAT REQUIRES THE BUSINESS TO ENROLL IN THE APD BUSINESS CRIME PREVENTION, SECURITY SURVEY. I THINK IT FEELS LIKE THEYRE LISTENING, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE A LOT OF THE TIMES ITS A BUMMER THAT IT HAPPENED, BUT ITS ALSO GREAT THAT THEYRE REALLY FOCUSING ON HOW CAN WE HELP PEOPLE GET IT REPLACED QUICKLY. NOW, THIS PROGRAM IS AN EXTENSION OF THE GLASS REPLACEMENT PROGRAM THAT WAS OFFERED TO DOWNTOWN PROPERTIES IN 2020. YOU CAN FIND THE LINK TO APPLY TO THIS PROGRAM
