Construction impacting Winooski’s Main Street businesses [Video]

The Winooski Main Street Revitalization Project covers four blocks in the city. While the project aims to rejuvenate the area, many business owners say they’re concerned about the impacts the construction is having on their business.Pany Senebouttarath, co-owner of Pho Dang Vietnamese Caf, has been a cornerstone of the Winooski community for 18 years. However, the construction outside her restaurant has caused a significant downturn in sales.”Weve seen a drop of 40 percent a day, which has now shifted to 40 to 50 percent a month,” Senebouttarath said. What was normally packed during rush hour is now filled with empty seats, but they’re grateful to the loyal daily customers who keep stopping by.”It helps me stay afloat and support my employees and family,” Senebouttarath said.Further down the street, the newly established Mountain Valley Restaurant is also feeling the effects of the construction, with delivery drivers struggling to navigate the congested area, leading to late deliveries and frequent order cancellations.”Were facing issues where drivers either cant find us or face delays, resulting in cancellations that we end up paying for,” owner Dhan Chhetri said.As the revitalization efforts continue through the summer of 2026, the city has acknowledged these concerns and is reportedly working on strategies to support affected businesses, including enhanced marketing initiatives.Senebouttarath remains hopeful that the city will take the necessary steps.”Were asking for help, not just for us, but for all businesses in the area. If the situation doesnt improve, some of us might be forced to shut down,” Senebouttarath said.Local businesses NBC5 spoke with say theyre hopeful that the business community can work together to approach the state and help figure out a solution to stay open.
