IM OLGA BREESE REPORTING FROM INTERSTATES BEING SHUT DOWN TO BUSINESSES CLOSED. NORTHERN NEW MEXICO IS GETTING SLAMMED. JULIAN PORTIS IS IN LAS VEGAS TO SHOW US HOW PEOPLE ARE DEALING WITH MOTHER NATURE. WELL, FOR THE TIME BEING, PEOPLE HERE IN THE LAS VEGAS AREA ARE SAYING THEY ARE TRYING TO STAY WARM UNTIL THE SNOW CLEARS UP AND IN THE MEANTIME, THEYRE NOT GOING ANYWHERE EITHER. I CHECKED SOME WEATHER CAMERAS I-25 UP THERE IN COLORADO. LOOKS GREAT. TWO HOURS INTO DRIVING, I GOT TO FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER. SCOTT PEPPER HAS BEEN A TRUCK DRIVER FOR MANY YEARS, AND ALTHOUGH DEALING WITH SEVERE WEATHER HAS BEEN A PART OF HIS JOB, HE KNOWS WHEN ITS TIME TO GET OFF THE ROAD. HOW DOES THIS AFFECT THE BUSINESS AND YOUR WORK PERSONALLY? IT JUST SLOW DOWN FOR A LITTLE BIT. THIS WEATHER CAN REALLY MAKE THINGS GO SLOW. HE AND DOZENS OF OTHER DRIVERS MAKING THAT DECISION TO HUNKER DOWN AND NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES. NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION OFFICIALS SAYING I-25 HAS BEEN CLOSED IN SOME SPOTS TOWARDS COLORADO. I WOULD SAY THIS HAS PROBABLY BEEN THE MOST SIGNIFICANT SNOWSTORM THAT WEVE GOTTEN, THE ACCUMULATION THAT WEVE GOTTEN IN SUCH A SHORT TIME, AND HOW THIS SYSTEM IS JUST GOING TO HANG AROUND FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT. DISTRICT FOUR PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER TRAVIS MARTINEZ SAYS THERE ARE MORE THAN 70 VEHICLES THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING THE STREETS SINCE THE STORM ARRIVED. AS WINDS AND SNOW CONTINUE TO BLOW THROUGH NORTHERN NEW MEXICO. TRAVELERS ARENT SURE HOW LONG THEYLL BE STAYING IN TOWN FOR. I HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS GOING TO BE GET OUT TONIGHT. COULD BE A COUPLE DAYS. JUST ALL DEPENDS ON THE WEATHER NOW COMPARED TO EARLIER TODAY. THE SNOW HAS ACTUALLY RELAXED AND CHILLED OUT A BIT, BUT THERE ARE MORE SHOWERS AND SNOW EXPECTED HERE
