Sweet Potatoes prepares to close after two decades of business [Video]

The beloved Winston-Salem staple will close its doors on February 1.

Owners Stephanie Tyson and Vivián Joiner had no idea the impact they would have on the people of Winston-Salem when they opened up their doors all those years ago.

For 22 years now, Chef Tyson has been creating magic in the kitchen, “it’s not soul food… cause we’re southern, but it’s food that’s good for the soul.” 

She and Joiner said over the past two decades, they’ve served over two million people. Many of them stood in line today just to grab a bite to eat.

“Most of the people that are standing in that line right now have been our loyal customers and we so appreciate them. I don’t know what we would have done without the people,” Chef Tyson said.
