Study predicts economic impact boost for Patriots Point destination by 2040 [Video]

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCSC) – Patriots Point, an integral and historic Lowcountry landmark, is expected to nearly double its economic impact within the next 16 years.

The property board met with experts from the University of South Carolina on Friday to discuss an analysis of the site’s financial future.

“Our estimates are looking more broadly at the Charleston Tri-County region, and what this growth for Patriots Point and Patriots Annex mean for the Tri-County as a whole. That includes Berkeley and Dorchester,” Darla Moore School of Business economist Joseph Von Nessen said.

This comes as the board prepares to build a mixed-use development on 61 acres of its 460-acre property. The project, called the Patriots Point Annex, would bring in hotels, retail, office, residential and hospitality amenities nearby.
