MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Leigha Lauer is a senior at Marietta high school, and she plays for both the basketball and soccer teams. She defines student-athlete as how it’s phrased- the student part comes first. Having a love for your sport is a big part as well.
“Someone who puts academics first obviously but also has a love for a sport whether that’s soccer, basketball, football, volleyball, whatever it is.”
Lauer says time management is a necessary skill of a student athlete. This includes having a life outside of school, not just balancing athletics and academics. While she admits it can be difficult at times, she says it gets easier once you get used to it.
“You definitely have to be good at time management, something I struggle with sometimes but just managing your time. You still have to fit a life into it as well, spending time with friends …
