Springfields City Utilities discusses impact of new regulation requiring identification of water line service material [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield City Utilities is asking water customers what kind of pipe they have if their house was built before January 2014.

City Utilities wants to identify lead water lines at customers’ homes. If your home was built before January 4, 2014, the utility asks you to self-report lead water lines from the water meter to your house. This is all part of new EPA guidelines for water companies.

Samples of City Utilities water consistently show lead levels below the threshold the EPA requires. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. City Utilities has no lead service lines within our infrastructure.

“The lead and copper rule regulation requires water utilities across the country to identify and document all water service lines,” says Elizabeth Robertson with City Utilities.
