Spices sold in N.Y. recalled for high lead levels, according to FDA [Video]

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers to throw away some spices, because they may contain high levels of lead.

Three New York brands are recalling their cinnamon spices, as they have the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead, according to the FDA. They are: American Spices, of Ozone Park, is recalling Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon; Advance Food International Inc., of Maspeth, is recalling Shahzada brand Cinnamon Powder in seven-ounce packaging; ALB-USA Enterprises Inc., of the Bronx, is recalling ALB Flavor brand Cinnamon Powder.

Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon was distributed to retailers in the New York City area between Dec. 1, 2023, and May 15, 2024. The recalled product is packed in seven- and 11-ounce packing PET jars with the expiration date: 12/2026.
