South Knoxville’s ‘mid-river’ waterfront to see more changes [Video]

The mid-river area extends from Henley Street Bridge to Suttree Landing Park.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — South Knoxville’s Sevier Avenue corridor is part of the “mid-river” waterfront which is home to several new developments for people living nearby. However, leaders said changes are not done coming to the area.

The mid-river area extends from Henley Street Bridge to Suttree Landing Park, with Councilman Tommy Smith saying that the area is home to several successful small businesses along Sevier Avenue.

“You have an entire Sevier Ave that is full with local merchants … and you have Regal headquarters who employs hundreds of people,” said Smith.

According to Knoxville’s “Tennessee River Waterfront” report, the mid-river is known for its high intensity and density use. The area is made up of housing, commercial and public space use.

“I think it’s one of the most balanced diversification of businesses., public places and residence,” Smith said.
