South Dakota receives Presidential Disaster Declaration after historic summer floods [Video]

PIERRE, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Governor Kristi Noem announced that South Dakota had received a Presidential Disaster Declaration on Thursday due to the flooding that occurred in late June through Early July.

Twenty-five counties have received disaster assistance from FEMA and four counties, Davison, Lincoln, Turner and Union, have qualified for individual assistance for residents and business owners.

Disaster Recovery Center dates & locations are set to be announced very soon.

Residents don’t have to go to a center to apply for FEMA assistance and impacted residents located in one of the four counties can apply online here, call 800-621-3362 or apply on the FEMA mobile app.

“South Dakota has worked tremendously hard to get to this point and will continue working to rebuild our communities. I am so proud of our people,” said Governor Noem. “This event was unprecedented, but our response was exactly what South Dakota always does. We work together to get our neighbors back on their feet.”
