MITCHELL, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – One thing you notice when going into Barb Feilmeier’s home this time of year is the smell of gingerbread.
“I mean, all it is is flour and water, there’s nothing to it,” said Barb.
Barb got the idea, back in 1970.
“It just began when I had four little kids. A baby, and the oldest one was six, and I read a ”Family Circle” magazine. They were making a gingerbread house and I put all the kids to bed one night and gave it a try. I still use the same recipe from 1970 because it works,” said Barb.
Every year since then, she’s made a different one.
“By the way, this is my 54th year making gingerbread houses,” said Barb.
There are pictures of all of them in a book. Many are modeled after other buildings.
