Shorter winters hurting some local businesses [Video]

With a forecast calling for highs in the low to mid 60’s Monday and Tuesday, it’ll feel more like May than November.

Shorter winters are impacting home improvement and hardware stores.

Andy Amrhein of Evey True Value in Bethel Park told KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin instead of two or three months of winter, we’ve been getting two or three weeks.

That’s not good for business.

“I haven’t bought snow blowers, snow shovels or snow scrappers for two years,” said Amrhein. “We’re still working on inventory from 2021. Yeah, I guess it’s good because I don’t have to buy the inventory, but it’s bad because I’m still trying to sell the inventory I had from two or three years ago.”

Amrhein says he’s been working at the hardware store for 51 years and has not seen more unusual weather.

“It’s disappointing, depressing,” said Amrhein, who started working at the hardware store when he was 13-years-old.
