Sextortion cases rising in Calera, how officers are helping parents and kids stay informed [Video]

CALERA, Ala. (WBRC) – Calera police are working to make sure your children are safe from the dangers of sextortion.

Officers are sharing what you need to know as cases rise in Alabama and across the country.

Calera police Chief David Hyche told WBRC, The National Center For Missing And Exploited Children has created a new tip sheet to help families talk to children about the dangers of sextortion and how it can be avoided.

“Kids have committed suicide, kids have ran away from home over this and we even had a child in this area who was deathly ill and the hospital had a diagnosis for some other problem but it was noting more than anxiety from being sextorted,” Hyche said.
