PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Another day, another fare glitch for SEPTA. The transit agency is still trying to find out why its fare collection system crashed again on Wednesday.
This is the second day in a row and at least the fourth time in the last month that SEPTA riders have been unable to buy quick trip tickets, load money onto their Travel Wallets or make fare transactions online.
Wednesday’s outage lasted for about an hour during the morning rush, from about 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Riders who were unable to pay their fares were allowed to board for free.
SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch said engineers from SEPTA and its ticketing vendor Conduent have been inspecting equipment in the field, but the cause of the glitch remains a mystery.
“It’s an urgent matter to get it fixed,” he said, “but we don’t have a whole lot more insight as to what’s causing it.”
