San Antonio boy hopes his mullet takes him to victory [Video]

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio boy is on a mission to buzz off the competition. 

Avery Quiroz, at 9 years old, is rocking a mullet. He’s competing in the kids category for the national online competition Mullet Champ.

“I started it two years ago,” he said. “My uncle inspired me to have it. I like the curls that he had.”

Quiroz got the nickname “Texas Waterfall” from his dad.

“It was just better than all the other names,” he said.

His hair is all business up front and party in the back.

“I just like the way it curls,” Quiroz said.

He credits his barber Kevin Espinoza, whom he sees every two weeks at Fvded Attraction #2 off South WW White Road.

“It is really unique,” Espinoza said. “It is something different. It is eye-catching.”
