MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A Grand Strand business will host a Saint Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving event on Saturday to raise money for childhood cancer research.
The event from noon until 2 p.m. at Spanky’s Pub House in the Arcadian Shores area is part of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The goal is to raise $20,000 for St. Baldrick’s, which touts itself “as the top charitable funder of childhood cancer research grants in the U.S. and around the world.”
Organizer Vaughn Hastings said that the event will honor children who have died from cancer, those battling cancer and those who are now cancer-free. He said this is his 18th year participating in the event and that he is proud to see his hair fall to the floor.
“The ones that lose their hair, it’s to help support them … so they don’t feel bad about it,” he said. “Everybody’s affected by cancer …
