Tropical Depression Debby caused significant damage, including a tree falling and creating a gas leak. This type of incident is common during strong storms, where high winds and heavy rain can cause trees to topple, sometimes leading to dangerous situations like gas leaks if the tree falls on gas lines or meters. According to Rural Hall Fire Chief Mike Simone, a tree hit a distribution box for gas. He said the call was made at 10:18 am Thursday morning.Chief Simone said there are three businesses currently sheltering in place: They include Siemens, Lantal, and Reynolda Electric.He said Westinghouse Road would be shut down from Highway 52 to Tobaccoville Road.
