Red Sox minor league starters combined to allow just one run in 17 innings Friday.

Righty Quinn Priester, who Boston acquired from the Pirates for Nick Yorke at the trade deadline, threw 5 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out one in Triple-A Worcester’s 3-0 win over Lehigh Valley.

The 2019 first-rounder’s velocity was up. He threw 19 sinkers, topping out at 97 mph and averaging 94.7 mph, per Baseball Savant.

“I think velocity is a huge component, and that’s something that we’re really honing in on ever since making the move over here,” Priester said. “I think if you look at the result today as if it’s any indication that velocity helps and it certainly does so I’m going to keep doing that and keep getting better.”

The 23-year-old added 13 sliders, five changeups, three four-seam fastballs and two curveballs.
