Portland mayor declares state of emergency after Microsoft outage impacts city services, hospitals [Video]

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler declared a state of emergency on Friday morning for Portland after a global IT outage that affected everything from airlines to hospitals.

The City of Portland saw outages with the city’s servers, data centers and employee computers.

At a news conference on Friday, Wheeler and the city’s emergency management team said that while there have been some technical difficulties in areas such as ports, transportation and other municipalities, the essential services have been functioning through the outages.

Wheeler said Portland has 487 systems with 266 impacted. As of Friday evening, about half of those systems have been fixed.

“Our priorities were to address those critical life safety measures which we put first,” said Shad Amed, director of the Portland Bureau of Emergency Services. “Those critical business functions so as a city we’re in pretty good shape right now.”
