Pickens County woman suffers severe burns in home explosion, community rallying to support [Video]

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Shelly Harlan of Pickens County suffered burns over 60% of her body on Saturday afternoon when she came home from work.

Right now Pickens County Fire and Rescue suspects a gas leak, but they still need to investigate further to know for sure.

Firefighters said Harlan escaped and was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she is undergoing a second surgery as of Thursday.

Her family and boss at Annie’s Restaurant describe her as bubbly, kind and funny. She worked at Annie’s in Jasper for almost five years.

Her boss Rebecca McClure said Harlan loves her job, and her community – and that same community is rallying around her now

“She’s a great person. She would give the shirt off of her back to anybody. She’s a grandmother. She’s a daughter. She has children,” said McClure.
