The New England Patriots are officially moving in a new direction. Head coach Jerod Mayo spoke to reporters today to inform the media that the team is naming rookie quarterback Drake Maye as the starter moving forward.
“Going forward, I think now, Drake [Maye] gives us the best chance to win now and going forward. He’s been getting better single week, as I said before. At the end of training camp, he was trending at a very high rate, and that has continued through the early part of the season. It was solely my decision…,” Mayo told reporters.
Maye was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, with the hopes that he would be the starter sooner rather than later. Interestingly, Mayo decided to allow Brissett to start over Maye. Now, the rookie is set to lead the team.
