Over 20,000 in Oneida County without power after storm; 100,000 out in Upstate NY [Video]

Rome, N.Y. — More than 20,000 homes and businesses are without power in Oneida County Wednesday morning, hours after a storm that raced through Upstate New York.

More than 100,000 NYSEG and National Grid customers are without power across the state. Oneida County is the hardest hit with 20,727 National Grid customers out. Rome has 10,367 customers without electricity.

National Grid, on its website, is not estimating when the power can be restored.

On Tuesday afternoon storm winds reached up to 79 mph in Rome. Bricks landed on cars and wood boards punctured car windows. In Madison County, one person was killed. Rome Mayor Jeffrey Lanigan said the city “looks like a war zone.” Govenor Kathy Hochul has declared a statewide state of emergency.

The bulk of the remaining 80,000 outages are in Upstate. Warren County has 15,896 without power, Saratoga 8,179, and Albany 6,510. All other counties in New York have less than …
