BUFFALO, N.Y. — A nonprofit organization dedicated to serving families who are homeless held an open house Saturday in Buffalo.
Family Promise of Western New York wanted people to come in, see the emergency shelter, and learn about their mission. The group provides families with support and a place to stay while they work to find their way back home.
Family Promise would like to open up a new shelter in the East Ferry neighborhood. Its executive director, Luanne Firestone, said the new shelter is needed to combat homelessness.
“We as a community need to step up to help our children. A lot of people in this community have been touched by homelessness. They themselves have been homeless,” Firestone said.
