Oasis ‘dynamic pricing’ draws the attention of the European Commission [Video]

The European Commission is set to examine ‘dynamic pricing’ models following the Oasis gig tickets debacle last weekend.

Tickets for the band’s two Croke Park gigs next August were advertised as starting from €86.50, but some of the 700,000 fans who logged onto Ticketmaster to buy tickets on Saturday morning were quoted prices of more than €400.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) on Monday said there “legitimate concerns” among consumers who sought to buy Oasis tickets and that it is “actively reviewing the situation”.

Ticketmaster has said it does not set ticket prices and that it is event organisers who have priced tickets “according to their market value”.

With dynamic pricing, the price of tickets can increase substantially when there the number of tickets available is limited and demand is high.
