CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Newbo City Market in Cedar Rapids will get hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money to allow it to expand.
In the past few months Newbo City Market has received more than $2 million in various federal and state grant money.
The nonprofit said that money will help it add a grocery store, more vendors, and it expects to see a lot more customers.
Alex Cooley helps run KC Cakes, a bakery his fiancé owns at Newbo City Market.
“We started out this space with a fridge, an oven, and a counter,“ Cooley said.
Three years ago he started guest vending at the market. He’s one of many vendors to start their journey at the building. After those years learning how to grow the business, Cooley and his fiancé are now preparing to open a restaurant and bakery.
