New Washington County planning, zoning ordinance brought before quorum court this week [Video]

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Before the Washington County Quorum Court at Thursday’s meeting will be a new, comprehensive countywide zoning ordinance.

“The Freedom and Property Preservation Zoning Act” was created to revamp Washington County’s current planning system, which was created back in 2005. Judge Patrick Deakins said the update is needed for the county to remain economically competitive with the population growth of Northwest Arkansas.

“I, like everyone else, enjoy Washington County in the state it is now,” Deakins said. “The reality is it will not be in that state in just a few short years, and we can either jump in and try to help manage this growth and make it good for everyone, or we can let this steamroll over us.”
