New law takes effect: Basically there is no booting after July 1 [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The city said car booting will be close to nonexistent in Nashville come Monday.

A new state law starts that limits the scenarios in which companies can put a boot on your car. The law takes effect after WSMV 4 Investigates uncovered multiple booting companies operating illegally in Nashville over the last year.

Devin Majors and Steven Knapp’s cars both got booted by different companies after parking, without paying, in lots in Edgehill and East Nashville while grabbing a bite to eat.

WSMV4 Investigates uncovered neither company had a permit at the time.

“It is just annoying, and it is illegal,” Knapp said.

The companies operating illegally were forced to refund hundreds of people that they booted while unlicensed.
