New Anchorage Ordinance Grants Free Meter Parking for Disabled Drivers | Homepage [Video]

Starting December 1, a new ordinance in Anchorage will make parking downtown more accessible for disabled drivers.

The Anchorage Assembly passed the measure, granting drivers with disability permits free meter parking. Additionally, qualified individuals can register for a free digital permit, eliminating the need to display a physical sign in their vehicle.

Jeff Read, Director of Easy Park, highlights that this policy empowers Alaskans with mobility challenges to choose the most convenient parking spot for their needs.

“We’re trying to make it as easy as we can on those who have a little more trouble getting to their destination than we do, and this is one way we can do that.”

The fines given out for violating the disabled parking rules in Anchorage have also increased in hopes of making sure parking spaces are available to those who need them.
