HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Funding from a state program will help transform empty lots in the Allison Hill neighborhood into homes and businesses.
The Gateway Project has plans to develop affordable housing units and commercial spaces on five vacant lots on Market Street near 13th Street. Wildheart Ministries is the nonprofit organization behind this inaugural initiative.
Director Tannon Herman says most of the families who move in will be first-time homebuyers.
They will also have to qualify as low-to-moderate income.
“This is really an intersection between multiple communities inside the city of Harrisburg and the downtown directly to our west,” Herman says. “This is a great opportunity to kind of almost put like a sign up in the community, if you will, of change is coming like and that good things are about to start happening.”
Project plans show a three-story building with 9 residential units. One unit will be ADA compliant and on the first floor alongside space for four commercial spaces.
Thanks for signing up!
