Munster Technological University’s (MTU) ambitions to be a leader in research have been given a major boost after they received €14.6m in funding.
The injection of cash, which came from the TU-RISE Project, will make Munster the highest direct-funded research income from industry partnerships across the entire TU sector in Ireland.
MTU currently has the largest research and innovation expenditure of €30m.
The latest influx of cash will allow MTU to expand its team of research postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers.
The university say they are aiming to use the funding to implement a 70% increase in postdoctoral researchers and an 11% increase in postgraduates.
Recruitment of an additional 15 personnel in the Research and Innovation Advisory Offices is also in their long term aims as a research income target of €35m by 2027.
