WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT)—The tragic 2018 aftermath of Hurricane Florence in southeastern North Carolina left homes and businesses destroyed, roads underwater, and communities devastated.
“Power was down for quite a while,” said Barry Owings.
One business though, stepped up.
“Our friends at Wicked Weed Brewing in Asheville called us and asked if he could help in any way,” said Owings, the owner of Broomtail Brewing in Wilmington.
Owings said they were but suggested they do something to help others.
“He was all about that,” said Owings.
Coastal Love was born. All of the proceeds from the new drink were donated to relief efforts to help us on the coast.
Now, Owings says it’s time to repay the favor.
“They didn’t have water, they didn’t have wastewater treatment, there was nothing they could do,” he said.
With the widespread damage and devastation left by Hurricane Helene in Asheville, Owings decided to brew another beer with the support of other local organizations.
“This is a true-to-style German pilsner,” said Owings.
Mountain Love was born.
