Missouri American Water, Ameren Missouri seeking rate hikes [Video]

ST. LOUIS — Two Missouri utility providers are requesting to increase rates starting in the middle of next year.

Missouri American Water and Ameren Missouri both said the increased funds would be used to pay for improvements to their respective systems that have already been completed or are in the works. The requests have been filed with the Missouri Public Service Commission, which will take the next 11 months to consider the proposals before making a decision.

Both providers said average customers could expect rate increases of more than $15 per month.

In a press release, Ameren said it would use the money to upgrade utility poles, power lines and add new substations a well as expand its energy portfolio. The press release said the work would provide more consistent service and provide additional rate options for customers.
