Midland Pedestrian Plaza to close for the fall | Local [Video]

MIDLAND, Mich. (WJRT) – The Commons Pedestrian Plaza in Midland is set to close for the season starting on September 30.

At that time, the Downtown Development Authority will begin removing outdoor seating, dining, and other recreational amenities. The goal is to have Main Street between Ashman and Rodd streets reopened to motor vehicle traffic by October 4.

The city says they will not be ending The Commons refreshment area during this time. Adults over the age of 21 can still purchase to-go alcoholic beverages from participating restaurants and bars.

Those drinks can be enjoyed outdoors anywhere within the designated space bounded by Gordon, Cronkright, Larkin, and Main streets, year-round.

The Pedestrian Plaza is tentatively set to reopen on June 2, 2025. In the meantime, the city is asking residents to fill out a survey about their experiences using the space.
