OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – As communities in the metro continue to grow, a local gas utility has urged those about to undergo a digging project to call 811 first.

Kansas Gas Service says that 811 Day – Aug. 11 – is a national reminder to follow safe digging practices to prevent damage to underground facilities. As communities in the Sunflower State continue to experience growth with new homes, businesses and more, safe digging practices must be followed.

“Building homes and businesses is critical to expanding economic growth, so those helping make that happen, like builders and excavators, can play a key role by using the free 811 service,” said Sean Postlethwait, Kansas Gas Service vice president of Operations. “Contacting 811 before digging and following the rules afterward is the best way to keep everyone safe, service reliable and growth going.”
