Maumee City Council to consider repeal of controversial sewer law [Video]

Council meets Wednesday to consider a new ordinance that doesn’t require replacing sanitary sewer leads and to create a revised grant program.

According to the special meeting agenda, upon recommendation from Mayor James MacDonald, council will consider approving Ordinance 030-2024, which would repeal the previous ordinance. This new ordinance, titled “An Ordinance Enacting A Real Property Conveyance And Inspection Code With Amnesty Provisions,” would be implemented as an emergency measure, if approved by council. 

Council then, upon recommendation from City Law Director Alan Lehenbauer, would consider adopting emergency Ordinance 031-2024, which is a new ordinance that calls for homeowner sewer inspections but without a requirement for replacement or relining of sanitary sewer laterals. That ordinance also would create a revised grant program.
