Mass. RMV services impacted by global internet outage [Video]

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – The global internet outage is impacting services with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, MassDOT said all RMV customer service centers are now conducting in-person appointments. However, commercial learner’s permit and driver’s license appointment remain canceled because of testing site issues.

Vehicle inspections are also unavailable.

In addition, all road tests are still being conducted and online credit card payments can now be made at mass.gov/RMV.

MassDOT added that customers should check with AAA before going to those those locations for any transaction needs.

The outage has also impacted flights, banks, hospital systems, and media outlets around the world.

Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said that the issue believed to be behind the outage was not a security incident or cyberattack — and that a fix was on the way. The company said the problem occurred when it deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft Windows.
