HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — To Bridgette Barnes, the idea of a “Cannabis Studies” program at her local community college sounded too good to be true.
“I was like, ‘What? Wait! No way – wow,’” said Barnes, who owns a York-based business called Mother Hemp, which produces cannabis-based product and helps people get medical marijuana cards, which are required in order to legally use marijuana in Pennsylvania.
But there it was: three online, nine-week courses at HACC.

The reason for her initial reaction?
“[It was] just surprising for our area because the stigma around [marijuana] is still very heavy,” Barnes said. “Seeing these classes here in Harrisburg and everything else there is, it’s just a great hope for the future as well.”
