MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Main Street Mobile, a longtime advocate for the improvement of downtown, gave out honors tonight.
Every year, the group and its friends gather to highlight a business that makes downtown better. This year, the honor went to the Haunted Book Shop.
The unique bookstore was awarded for its creativity that brings in book lovers from across the region.
The Downtown Parks Conservancy was also honored for its yearslong effort to reinvent Bienville Square.
The idea is to reward the risk taken when opening a business of holding an event downtown.
Downtown Mobile Alliance’s Communications Director Carol Hunter said” There’s a lot of risk, as a lot of people understand, whenever you are renovating a building, opening a business, starting event. And so we want those people to get some recognition, not just among other award winners — we have quite a few tonight — but among the community at large.”
