LaVonya Goodwin announces run for Omaha City Council [Video]

North Omaha community leader LaVonya Goodwin has announced her intention to file and run for the District 2 city council seat in 2025. 

The seat is currently held by Juanita Johnson, who assumed office on June 6, 2021. Johnson said by phone Monday that she intends to seek reelection next year. Candidates for city elections must wait until February to file their paper work, Johnson said.

Goodwin is the executive director for the North 24th Street Business Improvement District Association. A statement released by Goodwin said that she has secured $15 million in local and federal funding for the North 24th Street Streetscape Master Plan and facade improvements.
