GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A significant step in reimagining the Laurens Road corridor. Monday night, Greenville city council unanimously approved a tax financing plan for Laurens Road.
“What was important to us, that we do not see this come back with more just single big box stores and things like that. It should be something really special,” said Mayor Knox White.
The city plans to work with Verdae Development for the section between Haywood Rd. and Verdae Blvd.
“But we know over the years the area’s really suffered. there’s been a lot of decline. we’ve had a lot of businesses move out of that area,” said Deborah McKetty, speaking in favor during the public hearing.
The current corridor is filled with car dealerships, chain stores and vacant parcels. The new plan will be mixed-use.
“That is a little bit of residential, a little bit of retail, office, green space …
