LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Kentucky farm is going green in a different way.
Gallrein Farms, in Shelbyville, secured a grant through the Rural Energy for America Program, which helps rural small businesses and ag-producers lower their energy bills while helping the environment.
“Generating clean energy on-site through a solar system is one of the highest-impact choices you can make about how to conduct your business more sustainably,” energy consultant Ken Slatterly said.
The farm will use the grant to install two sections of solar panels and an EV charger in the parking lot.
“So a grant this substantial really affords us the opportunity to grow the farm and grow the business and continue to give back and bring something new,” Gabriella Gallrein, farm manager, said.
Gallrein Farms will kick off its produce season in July.
