Jury convicts Lenexa businessman of federal loan fraud [Video]

LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) – A federal jury convicted a Lenexa businessman of submitting false information on loan applications to the Small Business Administration.

Court documents presented in federal court said 53-year-old Scott W. Anderson, of Lenexa, was found guilty of four counts of false statement in a loan application, four counts of wire fraud and six counts of aggravated identity theft.

Anderson was part-owner of Riley Drive, a company that operated restaurants in Kansas and Iowa. In 2018 and 2019 he falsely responded “no” to questions on loan applications from the SBA concerning whether he or companies he controlled were involved in legal actions.

At the time, Riley Drive was a defendant in multiple civil lawsuits.

In March 2018, the SBA approved a $3.6 million loan to Riley Drive. Just over a year later, in June 2019, the company defaulted, causing a loss to the SBA of nearly $2.2 million.
