House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) distanced himself from the proposal by fellow House Republicans to use “inherent contempt” powers to have Attorney General Merrick Garland arrested for not providing a recording of President Joe Biden’s interview with special counsel Robert Hur.
Speaking with Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo, Comer emerged as an unlikely skeptic of the Republicans’ plan — dismissing it as someone else’s idea on Thursday and “not necessary” given that “the last time it was used members of Congress rode horses.”
The host asked: “Come on, Mr. Chairman, are you really going to bring the attorney general into custody?”
Comer replied: “Well, that’s [Rep.] Ana [Paulina] Luna’sidea. I think we’ve got a good case in court. The reason I think we’re in good standing in court is because the Associated Press and CNN and the Washington Post and several other media outlets are also suing for the release of the tape. …
